This Sunday on Fine Tuning I'll be featuring "Phonetics On and On," the new studio album by the Chicago indie-rock band Horsegirl. Already receiving rave reviews from The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal and Paste Magazine, this album has influences that range from the Velvet Underground to Young Marble Giants to the Raincoats. Also in the mix will be new music by Hurray for the Riff Raff, plus birthday tributes to Johnny Cash and George Harrison. Fine Tuning: Sundays from 4 to 6 p.m. on ann arbor's 107one.

This Sunday on Fine Tuning I'll be featuring the new self-titled album by Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory, her 7th studio release and her best to date. I won't be surprised to see this one on a lot of 2025 best of lists at the end of the year (including mine!). Also in the mix will be a major birthday tribute to the iconic Smokey Robinson, who turns 85 on February 19th. Fine Tuning: Sundays from 4 to 6 p.m. on ann arbor's 107one.

Fine Tuning preview: 2/2/25

This Sunday on Fine Tuning I'll pay tribute to the brilliant British vocalist Marianne Faithfull, who died on Thursday at the age of 78. Marianne went from being a teenage pop star, as well as a girlfriend of Mick Jagger, to a homeless heroin addict, only to reemerge in her early 30s as a critically acclaimed performer singing songs of brutal honesty. Also in the mix will be a 78th birthday tribute to Dave Davies of The Kinks, plus new music from Lord Huron! Fine Tuning: Sundays from 4 to 6 p.m. on ann arbor's 107one.

Fine Tuning preview: 1/26/25

This Sunday on Fine Tuning I'll have a major tribute to The Band's Garth Hudson, who died on Tuesday at the age of 87. The last surviving member of the group, Garth was The Band's most versatile musician, playing Lowrey organ, clavinet, synthesizers, saxophone, accordion, trumpet, French horn and violin. In the album spotlight will be The Weather Station's superb new release "Humanhood," and I'll have birthday tributes to Motown bassist James Jamerson and Roxy Music's guitarist Phil Manzanera. Fine Tuning: Sundays from 4 to 6 p.m. on ann arbor's 107one.

Fine Tuning preview: 1/19/25

This Sunday on Fine Tuning I'll be featuring the music of Hugo Largo, a New York City-based quartet that was active from 1984 through 1991. Known for their unusual lineup of two bass guitars, violin and vocals, Hugo Largo earned high praise from the likes of Brian Eno and R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe. All of the band's studio output and previously unreleased material are included on the recently released 2 CD set "Huge Large and Electric." Fine Tuning: Sundays from 4 to 6 p.m. on ann arbor's 107one.
