Audition thanks

Thanks to all who stopped by Chelsea's Common Grill on Monday to audition for the Sounds & Sights on Thursday Nights Summer Festival. 107one's new news anchor Krystal McKanders and I were astounded by the variety and quality of the music played by everyone who participated in the audition. Also big thanks to Craig Common of the Common Grill for his hospitality!

Tomorrow and Friday I'll be giving away 'beat-the-box-office' tickets to this summer's Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young show at the Palace of Auburn Hills...

The best laid plans...

So I was all ready to stay up late (late for me, anyway!) and see the English progressive-rock band Elbow at the Magic Stick two nights ago, followed by the much-anticipated Death Cab For Cuite/Franz Ferdinand show last night at the State Theater - but alas, the nasty cold that's been going around 107one finally caught up me - instead of seeing concerts the last two nights, I stayed home and dosed myself with NyQuil - alas!

If anyone saw these shows, I'd love to get your impressions - please drop me a line...

The concert is next Tuesday, April 18, and make sure to listen today (Wed.), tomorrow and Friday for your chance to win.

Happy Opening Day

Ahhh...at last...the Detroit Tigers home opener is today! With it comes that special feeling of renewal and optimism - it's kind of the unofficial 1st day of spring for me...

My very special guest this morning will be Hall of Fame Tigers broadcaster Ernie Harwell, who will talk about the magic and mystique of Opening Day.

I'll also be joined by Steve Bergman of Schoolkid's Records to talk about major new releases hitting his store in the next few weeks.

Fine tuning with Gomez tomorrow

I have been a gigantic fan of the inventive British rock band Gomez ever since its inception some 8 years ago. The group releases its new album "How We Operate" in early May, and it may very well be the best thing they've ever done! Check out a song from the new Gomez album tomorrow (Thursday) during my Fine Tuning preview - just before 9am.

I'll also play a few more tracks from "How We Operate" on Fine Tuning this Sunday, April 9 between 4 & 6pm,
