Fine Tuning preview: 5/1/22

This Sunday on Fine Tuning I'll feature "Everything Was Beautiful," the first album in almost four years by Spiritualized. Led as always by British singer-songwriter Jason Pierce, Spiritualized specialize in swirling, psychedelic soundscapes that leave you in a blissful trance. Also in the mix will be lots of songs by Spoon, in honor of their May 2nd concert at the Fillmore, plus I'll do a birthday tribute to The Godfather of Soul, James Brown. Fine Tuning: Sundays from 4 to 6 p.m. on ann arbor's 107one.

Calexico is a band I've been playing on the radio for decades, and the Americana group's spectacular new release "El Mirador" will be in the album spotlight this Sunday on Fine Tuning. I'll also do a birthday tribute to my favorite jazz vocalist of all time, Ella Fitzgerald, plus I'll play new music by Bryan Ferry and Spiritualized. Fine Tuning: Sundays from 4 to 6 p.m. on ann arbor's 107one.

Fine Tuning preview: 4/17/22

This Sunday on a very special edition of Fine Tuning I'll be devoting the entire show to Charles Mingus and Iggy Pop --- two uncompromising, influential and extraordinarily important musicians.

Jazz bassist, composer and band leader Charles Mingus (who died in 1979 at the age of 56) was born 100 years ago on April 22, 1922. His 1959 classic "Mingus Ah Um" remains one of my favorite albums of all time.

Iggy Pop, the Godfather of Punk, has influenced everyone from the Sex Pistols to Nirvana to Joy Division. Iggy (born James Osterberg) will celebrate his 75th birthday on April 21st!
Fine Tuning: Sundays from 4 to 6 p.m. on ann arbor's 107one.

Fine Tuning preview: 4/3/22

This Sunday on Fine Tuning I'll be featuring new music from Cowboy Junkies, a band I've had the pleasure of playing on the radio for many, many years. Their iconic cover version of the Velvet Underground's "Sweet Jane" made them famous in 1988, and their latest album "Songs of the Recollection" includes cover versions of songs by David Bowie, the Cure, Gordon Lightfoot, the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. Fine Tuning: Sundays from 4 to 6 pm on ann arbor's 107one.
