Fine Tuning preview: 3/17/19

This Sunday on Fine Tuning I'll pay tribute to the legendary session musician Hal Blaine, who died earlier this week at the age of 90. Blaine was a member of the Wrecking Crew, the group of session musicians who in the early 1960s began dominating rock ā€™nā€™ roll recording in Los Angeles. Along with guitarists Glen Campbell and Tommy Tedesco, bassists Carol Kaye and Joe Osborn, and keyboardists Leon Russell and Don Randi, Blaine played drums on thousands of recordings through the mid-1970s, including hit singles by the Beach Boys, Elvis Presley, the Ronettes, the Association, the Byrds, the 5th Dimension, Simon & Garfunkel and Herb Alpert. Fine Tuning: Sundays from 4 to 6 p.m. on ann arbor's 107one.

Fine Tuning preview: 3/3/19

This Sunday on Fine Tuning I'll be featuring a two-part tribute to Mark Hollis, frontman of the British art-rock group Talk Talk. Hollis died earlier this week at the age on 64. After recording synth-pop/new wave hits "It's My Life," "Talk Talk" and "Life's What You Make It," the group moved in a different direction on their last two albums (1988's "Spirit of Eden" and 1991's "Laughing Stock"), which are far more experimental & utterly uncompromising. Robert Plant, Radiohead, Elbow and Duran Duran are just a few of the artists who've praised the influential work of Mark Hollis. Fine Tuning: Sundays from 4 to 6 p.m. on ann arbor's 107one.
