Fine Tuning preview: 8/26/12

This Sunday at 4pm on Fine Tuning I'll be featuring Anastasis, the first new album in sixteen years by the uniquely captivating duo Dead Can Dance.  Helmed as always by Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry, Dead Can Dance fuses together many genres of music from around the world, incorporating Gregorian chants, Gaelic folk, African polyrhythms and much more.  I caught them live back in 1996 at Ann Arbor's Michigan Theater and it was a genuinely thrilling, mind-opening  experience.  How very cool to have them back in action --- just wish their current, all-too-short tour was bringing them back to A2!

Fine tuning preview: 8/19/12

This Sunday at 4pm on Fine Tuning 'll be featuring "Thankful N' Thoughtful," the powerful new album by R&B vocalist Bettye LaVette. I have been an outspoken fan of Bettye's for years, and she has never sounded better than she does on this latest effort, which includes covers of songs by Bob Dylan ("Everything Is Broken"), the Black Keys ("I'n Not the One") and Savoy Brown ("I'm Tired"). I'll also play something new from British singer-songwriter Beth Orton, who releases her first album in six years later this year ("Sugaring Season").

Fine Tuning preview: 8/12/12

This Sunday at 4pm on my 107one Fine Tuning program I’ll be featuring ‘Kiko,’ considered by most to be Los Lobos’ finest studio album. ‘Kiko’ is being reissued this month in a 20th Anniversary edition (which includes bonus tracks). Also coming out soon is ‘Kiko Live,’ a never-before-issued concert recording done at the House of Blues in San Diego a few years ago.

Fine Tuning preview: 8/5/12

This Sunday at 4pm on Fine Tuning I'll be featuring the exquisite new album "Life Is People" by British singer-songwriter Bill Fay. Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, who appears on the album as a special guest, says: "I can’t think of anyone whose records have meant more in my life.”
