Fine Tuning preview: 10/31/21

This Sunday on Fine Tuning I'll have brand new music from Elvis Costello & The Impostors and Spoon, a 58th birthday tribute to guitarist Johnny Marr of the Smiths, and in the album spotlight I'll feature "Sympathy for Life," the new release from New York City art-punk quartet Parquet Courts. This Sunday on Fine Tuning I'll be featuring the long-awaited reissue of The Beatles' "Let It Be" album, beautifully remixed by Giles Martin (son of Beatles producer George Martin) and loaded with previously unheard performances. Also in the mix will be new music by Parquet Courts and Cat Power, plus birthday tributes to Jefferson Airplane's Grace Slick and Fleetwood Mac's Peter Green. Fine tuning preview: 10/10/21

This Sunday on Fine Tuning I'll put the spotlight on vocalist and guitarist Karen Dalton, who came of age in the Greenwich Village folk music scene of the early 1960s. Dalton is the subject of an acclaimed new documentary entitled "Karen Dalton: In My Own Time." Also in the mix will be new music by Cat Power along with an 80th birthday tribute to Paul Simon. This Sunday on Fine Tuning I'll be featuring the new tribute to the Velvet Underground's groundbreaking debut album from 1967, "The Velvet Underground & Nico." This well-curated, song-by-song covers album includes contributions from Michael Stipe, Iggy Pop, Matt Berninger, Courtney Barnett, Andrew Bird and King Princess. I'll also pay tribute to three major musicians who passed away over the last week: George Frayne (aka Commander Cody), Dr. Lonnie Smith & Pee Wee Ellis.
