Music & Movie preview

This Sunday, March 4 at 4pm on Fine Tuning I’ll be featuring new releases by Lyle Lovett (Release Me), Delta Spirit (Delta Spirit), Kevin Gordon (Gloryland) and Lambchop (Mr. M).

And please join me on Monday, March 5 at the Michigan Theater for the next screnning in Martin Bandyke’s Moving Pictures film series: the classic documentary Gimme Shelter — directed by Albert and David Maysles and Charlotte Zwerin, the film chronicles the last weeks of the Stones’ 1969 US tour and culminates in the disastrous Altamont Free Concert. I’ll be on hand to introduce the film next Monday at 7pm. More info at www.michtheater.org.

Fine Tuning preview: 2/26/12

This Sunday at 4pm on Fine Tuning I'll pay tribute to MC5 bassist Michael Davis, who died on Feb. 17 at the age of 68.  One of the greatest rock bands to ever come out of Detroit, the MC5 influenced everyone from Nirvana to the White Stripes.  I have indelible memories of seeing the band perform in the summer of 1970 at Wayne State University's Tartar Field --- it was a blisteringly powerful show I have not forgotten after all these years.

Fine Tuning preview: 2/12/12

This Sunday at 4pm on Fine Tuning I'll be featuring music from Paul McCartney's new album "Kisses on the Botton," his first release in almost five years.  I'll also play songs from Wilco's masterpiece from 2002, "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot." The recording of that album is the subject of Sam Jones' documentary "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart," the next film in Martin Bandyke's Moving Pictures film series at the Michigan Theater.  I'll be hosting the screening at 7pm on Monday, Feb. 13 at the Michigan ---- hope to see you there!
