Fine Tuning preview: 11/28/21

This Sunday on Fine Tuning I'll do a deep dive into "Raise the Roof," the long-awaited second collaboration between Robert Plant & Alison Krauss. The follow-up to their 2007 Grammy-winning release "Raising Sand," Plant & Krauss do brilliant interpretations of songs written by Hank Williams, Calexico, Allen Toussaint, Merle Haggard, Bert Jansch, Lucinda Williams and others. Produced to perfection by T-Bone Burnett and featuring stellar backup from David Hidalgo, Marc Ribot, Jay Bellerose and Dennis Crouch, "Raise the Roof" is without a doubt one of the best albums of 2021! This Sunday on Fine Tuning I'll spotlight the latest Joni Mitchell reissue: "Archives - Volume 2 (The Reprise Years, 1968-1971)." The 5-CD box set features a ton of previously unreleased material, including Joni performing live at Ann Arbor's Canterbury House; her debut at Carnegie Hall: and a concert in Ottawa, Ontario recorded by Jimi Hendrix! This weekend on Fine Tuning I’ll devote half of the program to the Rolling Stones, in honor of their upcoming concert at Ford Field on Monday. This Sunday on Fine Tuning I'll feature "I Don't Live Here Anymore," the beautiful new album by The War on Drugs. Also in the mix will be four (!) Scorpio birthday tributes: Joni Mitchell, Booker T. Jones of Booker T. & the M.G.'s, Phil May of the Pretty Things and Andy Partridge of XTC. I'll also pay tribute to jazz guitarist Pat Martino, who died on Nov. 1 at the age of 77.
