Fine Tuning preview: 2/2/20

This Sunday in the album spotlight on Fine Tuning I'll be featuring "Mind Hive," the brilliant new release from the British art punk band Wire. Also in the mix will be tunes by Mavis Staples and guitarist Marc Ribot, who both have concerts coming up soon. Mavis will be at the Michigan Theater on Feb. 15 to play a benefit for The Breakfast at St. Andrew's, while Marc will be at the Toledo Museum of Art on Feb. 6 to provide the score for the 1924 sci-fi classic "Aelita: Queen of Mars." Fine Tuning preview: 1/26/20

This Sunday on Fine Tuning I'll be playing lots of songs from artists performing at next week's 43rd Ann Arbor Folk Festival. Expect to hear tracks from Folk Fest headliners Calexico, Iron and Wine, Nathaniel Rateliff and Betty LaVette. And in the album spotlight I'll feature "Countless Branches," the new release from English folk legend Bill Fay. Fine Tuning: Sundays from 4 to 6 p.m. on ann arbor's 107one.

Fine Tuning preview: 1/19/20

This Sunday in the album spotlight on Fine Tuning I'll feature G. Love's "The Juice," which includes special guests Keb' Mo' and Robert Randolph. Also in the mix will be a birthday tribute to legendary singer-songwriter Warren Zevon (who would've turned 73 on Jan. 24), plus a 40th anniversary tribute to the Pretenders' self-titled debut album, which still sounds as incredible as the day it came out! Fine Tuning preview: 1/12/20

This Sunday in the album spotlight on Fine Tuning I'll be featuring "Black Hole Rainbow," the debut full-length album by Devon Gilfillian. I'll also play the MC5's "Back in the USA" album in its entirety; it may be hard to believe, but that album was released 50 years ago next Wednesday! Also in the mix will be birthday tributes to ex-Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor, who turns 70 on January 17; and the late New Orleans composer, arranger, songwriter, keyboardist and vocalist Allen Toussaint, who would have turned 82 on January 14. Fine Tuning preview: 1/5/20

On the first Fine Tuning of 2020 I'll be featuring the exquisite new album by British singer-songwriter Michael Kiwanuka. Simply entitled "Kiwanuka," this one landed at #5 in my 2019 top ten album list. Also in the mix will be a birthday tribute to David Bowie, plus tributes to two musicians who passed away last month: Jack Scott (Detroit's first rock & roll star) & Neil Innes (founding member of the Bonzo Dog Band).
