Fine Tuning preview: 9/27/20

This Sunday in the album spotlight on Fine Tuning I'll be featuring "Palo Alto," a previously unreleased live album by jazz legend Thelonious Monk. The story behind this 1968 concert is as astounding as it is unlikely! Also in the mix will be tributes to French vocalist Juliette Greco and Johnny Cash's longtime drummer W.S. "Fluke" Holland, both of whom passed away on Sept. 23rd. Fine Tuning: Sundays from 4 to 6 p.m. on ann arbor's 107one.

Fine Tuning preview: 9/20/20

 This Sunday in the album spotlight on Fine Tuning I'll be featuring "Blackbirds," the moving and magnificent new studio recording by Michigan native Bettye LaVette. Comprised mostly of songs made famous by black female vocalists like Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone, "Blackbirds" is the follow-up to "Things Have Changed," Bettye's Grammy-nominated album of Bob Dylan covers. Also in the mix on Fine Tuning will be new songs by Django Django, Sunflower Bean and Matt Berninger, plus a birthday tribute to Ray Charles. Fine Tuning preview: 9/13/20

 This Sunday in the album spotlight on Fine Tuning I'll feature the super deluxe box set reissue of "Goats Head Soup," the classic 1973 release by the Rolling Stones. The box set includes a new mix of the original album, three previously unreleased tracks, and the incendiary live recording "Brussels Affair." Also in the mix will be new songs by Bettye LaVette, Suzanne Vega and Paul Weller, plus a previously unreleased song taken from "Wildflowers & All The Rest," the highly anticipated archive project from Tom Petty.  This Sunday in the album spotlight on Fine Tuning I'll be featuring "Agora," the first studio recording in six years by Brazilian-American vocalist Bebel Gilberto. Also in the mix will be be new tracks by Bill Callahan, Suzanne Vega, and the Neverly Boys, plus a 69th birthday tribute to Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders.
