Fine Tuning preview: 8/1/21

This Sunday on Fine Tuning I'll pay tribute to the groundbreaking singer-songwriter-guitarist Ellen McIlwaine, who passed away on June 23rd at the age of 75. I'll focus on the compilation album "Up from the Skies: The Polydor Years," which features some of her finest singing and slide-guitar playing. Also in the mix will be a birthday tribute to Louis Armstrong, who was born on August 4, 1901, and I'll also have new music from Steve Gunn, Prince and The War on Drugs. This Sunday on Fine Tuning I'll start the show with an 80th birthday tribute to the legendary Motown vocalist Martha Reeves, and in the album spotlight will be "Greatful Deadication," a new Blue Note recording from Detroit saxophonist Dave McMurray. Also in the mix will be a birthday tribute to the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia along with new music from Kurt Vile, Lord Huron and Hiss Golden Messenger.
